Today as I was going through my facebook feed, a short video popped up into my timeline. It was a Japanese video showing a lady, an owner of a restaurant, glancing at all the customers that were happily dining in her restaurant. As her gaze dances from one table to the other.. her gaze instantly catches a customer who has just entered into the restaurant. His mannerisms spoke of a tiring work day and a exhausted and hungry self. He calls the waitress and asks her, 'How much for a bowl of chicken soup and noodles?' The waitress effortlessly says 250 yen. To this the man quickly asks her another question, 'And how much for a bowl of bland noodles? The waitress says 50 yen. The man rejoices and says, 'Please give me a bowl of bland noodles then.' The waitress writes down the order and starts proceeding to the kitchen to inform the chefs about the order. The owner instantly realizes what was going on! She calls out to the waitress and asks her what order did the customer give. The waitress informs her. On listening to the order the owner smiles and whispers something into the ear of the waitress. The waitress smiles back at the owner! The order arrives and just as the man is about to collect his chopsticks, he notices that the waitress has placed another bowl on his table. It was a bowl of chicken soup! The man hurriedly informs the waitress that she has mistaken someone else's order as his. To this the waitress smiles and says that he is one lucky customer for the day and hence have received the bowl of soup for free. The man thanks her and happily starts eating his food. In midst of the dinner, he receives a call from his father and he tells his father that he has sent some money to him for his medicines. Turns out the man had sent almost all of his daily wages to his father and kept only a minimal portion of it to himself to get something to eat. The owner smiles at the customer leaving the restaurant, with his hunger satiated from a full meal he just had, completely oblivious to the generosity of the owner. The video ended and it's moral struck a chord with me. The video displayed generosity of a human being, but above that, it showed that a generous deed done by a person can always be kept a secret.. or as they say behind the curtains. I know we have heard it a lot since childhood.. karm karte jao and fal ki chinta mat karo.. but a teaching from the True master says that bad deeds are like shackles of iron..and good deeds are like shackles made of gold. It's always easier to break free from shackles made of iron as bad deeds fill a person with remorse or regret but what about the shackles made of gold.. it's more difficult to get rid of them since the yellow metal is so valuable...much similar to good deeds. As good deeds always make a person feel good about one's own self but a fine line almost invisible to the human psychology, doesn't take much time to turn the good deed into a proudy or egoistic deed! Such is the power of deeds..of karma! To do good deeds but to not get punished by it, there's a solution a few follow.. that is to do good deeds but not letting anyone know of it and stay humble all the way.. OR the psyched people like King Harishchandra who knew the ultimate Doer is the Almighty and that they are just a mere embodiment of the Formless's grace!! Both of the personalities are a blessing to the world.. provided the seed of ego is kept at bay from entering their lives. Now that the enlightenment has been done.. it's a question I ask to myself.. Have I atleast become a good Samaritan... or rather.. have I atleast become the INVISIBLE GOOD SAMARITAN??
